Resumo

Corrosion is a process of deterioration of metallic and non-metallic materials by the influence of physicochemical agents of the medium, linked or not to mechanical stresses. One of the corrosive media is the soil, which is little investigated given its complexity. In this way, this work presents a study of the influence of the physical-chemical composition of the soil in the corrosive process of the base of the metal poles of the UFERSA CarauÌbas-RN. The procedure for carrying out the soil analyzes followed the Manual of Methods of Soil Analysis of EMBRAPA (2011) and Standard Methods of APHA (2005). The soil was collected and analyzed for 9 months with a period of 30 days between one collection and another, with a depth of 0 to 20 cm, close to 10 metal alloy poles presents in the University. To determine the corrosive action of the soil, it was analyzed its variables, such as grain size, moisture content, conductivity, pH and organic matter. In general, it can be verified that the soils were all classified as sandy, and the moisture content was generally low. Soil conductivity was in the range up to 0.55 mS / cm, with the exception of soil 9 that had values close to 1mS / cm. Soil pH was commonly alkaline. The organic matter content was low, with maximum values of 4%. It was also observed that the corrosion in the posts is facilitated due to errors of projects related to the installation of these. Above all, some techniques were suggested that could probably reduce the influence of the soil in the corrosive process of the metallic bases, such as the coating of the poles with anti-corrosion paint, to avoid that the concrete bases of the pole were completely buried and use non-metallic washers between the nuts and bases of the metal alloy posts.
