Peer review process

  • The process of submitting articles to the Geotemas journal initially comprises filling out a registration directly in the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER), marking the "author" option in the electronic form.
  • Communication throughout the article submission and evaluation process will take place between the editor and the author(s), through the journal's system and email.
  • When the file is submitted, the system sends an automatic email to the corresponding author, informing about the submission of the manuscript.
  • The editorial process begins with the verification of the submission rules available in the Submissions item. Therefore, we recommend that authors send their manuscripts rigorously, in accordance with the journal's rules, so that the process can proceed more quickly.
  • Original articles that comply with the submission rules will be assigned by the editor to be evaluated by two or three subject matter experts for each article, who will have a standard evaluation form.
  • The process is carried out anonymously (Double-blind evaluation) and with academic parity of the evaluators. All evaluators linked to Geotemas are researchers and professors, with a doctorate or master's degree, linked to technical or higher education institutions in the country or abroad and in the evaluation areas associated with the scope of the journal.
  • After completing the evaluation form, each evaluator will express his/her opinion through one of the following options:

I) Acceptance;

II) Required reviews;

III) Submitting the new round;

IV) Rejecting, issuing an opinion to the editor and author.

  • The evaluators are invited to carry out the activity within 30 days;
  • The evaluators are entirely free, in their opinion, or in the text of the manuscript itself, to propose changes, correct, suppress or propose excerpts and sections, point out ambiguous, redundant, incoherent descriptions or misuse of terminology and concepts;
  • The decision on the acceptance or rejection of the work for publication is fundamentally based on the recommendation of the reviewers of the journal;
  • After receiving the evaluation, the editor will send the opinion and, if necessary, the article with the tags in the original to the author(s). In case of a favorable opinion for the publication and another against, the text will be sent to a third member of the evaluation committee. If there is a predominance of unfavorable opinions, the work will be archived and the communication about the result will be made to the author(s);
  • Under the predominance of favorable opinions, the author(s) will be informed of the editorial decision to publish. Such acceptance, however, is conditioned to the attendance or justification based on the recommendations of a technical or editorial nature presented;
  • In this manuscript correction process, authors may be required to make several corrections, whose publication will only take place when all changes are met. If they do not agree with the requested corrections, the author(s) must then prepare a written, technically grounded justification to be sent along with the reformulated version of the work. Such referral must be made within the deadline established by the editor, that is, according to the level of adjustments to be provided. Otherwise, the job will be deleted from the publish queue;
  • If there are justifications, these will be analyzed by the editorial committee, which can forward them for analysis to the respective reviewers of the journal. If the editorial and content suggestions are duly incorporated into the text or justified, the work is definitively accepted for publication, moving on to the graphic composition and layout stage. At this stage, the author(s) may be asked for information for inclusion in the text and for sending images in better resolution;
  • In the last volume/year, the rejection rate of submission articles was 69%, with the majority in the input rejection stage, not meeting the submission guidelines;
  • Omitted cases will be discussed and deliberated within the editorial committee.
