CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR IN SCIENTIFIC TEXTS OF DISCLOSURE: MAPPINGTHE METAPHOR "CURE CANCER IS WAR"
Keywords:
Conceptual metaphor, Source-domain, Target-domainAbstract
This paper aims at discussing on some principles that guide Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) based on Lakoff and Johnson (1980/2002), exposing how this new conception has replaced traditional metaphor conception as a figure of speech. Based on CMT, we argue that conceptual metaphor is an important allied to scientific knowledge, considering that it provides an attribution of concept to new facts related to our experience data. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to analyze the conceptual metaphor CURE OF CANCER IS A WAR. The corpus was taken from a scientific text published in Superinteressante magazine. Linguistic expression analysis was accomplished from mapping established relations between source-domain (WAR) and target-domain (CURE OF CANCER). Keywords:
