A MULHER DE BATH ATRAVÉS DAS LENTES DO FEMINISMO

Esse artigo é uma revisita à monografia de sua autora (Tavares, 2020), e objetiva responder à pergunta de quais das ações e falas da Mulher de Bath se assemelham às crenças e críticas do movimento feminista contemporâneo. Isso se dá porque as coisas que a personagem diz e faz quebram múltiplos estereótipos e expõem muitas semelhanças com algumas das ideias discutidas pelo feminismo, apesar de ela existir na sociedade misógina do século XIV. O propósito é descrever a representação feminina no Prólogo e Conto da personagem, bem como identificar semelhanças entre seu discurso e ações e o feminismo, embora com o cuidado de não cometer anacronismo. É um trabalho relevante, visto que permitiu a afirmação de que, apesar do contexto fortemente sexista e patriarcal da Idade Média, ainda é possível encontrar atitudes de resistência pelas mulheres, ainda que sutis ou controversas. Devido a sua natureza qualitativa, a análise mostrou que a Mulher de Bath se alinhou com o movimento feminista, mas, concomitantemente, foi contra ele. Ao fim do estudo, não foi possível rotular a personagem como “anti-feminista” nem como “proto-feminista”, já que ela se posiciona em posições ambas convergentes e divergentes em relação às crenças do movimento.
