Abstract

In this article, we examine the notion of existence in Hume"™s theory of belief. According to Hume, as well as to Kant later on, existence is not a predicate that could add a further determination to the conception or idea. Although under another orientation, Hume also considers that issues of existence are decided only in the domain of experience. And it is in the theory of belief that Hume can reject existence as a predicate, since it is inside this theory that logic is considered as the enquiry of transitions of ideas and not as the investigation of the predication of concept-predicate to concept-subject.
