Abstract

The extreme reactions of fascination and rejection of the term "mysticism" can only be explained by the history of its use, which is presented from the most common point of view of associating it with the East, until the meaning it took in the history of Western mysticism. This article offers a reflection on the various types of mystical and aesthetic theology of the sublime throughout medieval and modern history.
