An outline of the streets surrounding the Amazonas Theatre and the history they hold

Abstract

The streets surrounding the Amazon Theatre are recognized as preserved urban spaces that promote social interaction, collective memory, and strengthening local identity. This study aims to analyze the layout of the streets surrounding the Amazon Theatre and examine their historical significance. The research adopts a qualitative approach with exploratory and descriptive objectives. The findings reveal a lack of effective public policies for the preservation of streets and cultural heritage, resulting in the loss of important historical assets and weakening the population's sense of belonging. Furthermore, the absence of the History of Amazonas as a subject in elementary and secondary education contributes to the limited recognition of the cultural and historical value of these spaces. The study also highlights that only Largo de São Sebastião, located in front of the Amazon Theatre, receives greater appreciation and public use due to the leisure attractions available in its surroundings. It is concluded that the current preservation efforts are insufficient to ensure the protection of the existing heritage and to promote the appreciation of the historical and cultural significance of these streets.
