Abstract

Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is a sustainable development strategy based on the active participation of local
communities, the appreciation of traditional knowledge, and the shared management of tourism activities. This
study aimed to analyze the links and connections of the Santo Antônio and Tiririca communities, located in Novo
Airão, Amazonas, Brazil, regarding Community-Based Tourism, seeking to understand how social relationships
influence the management and sustainability of tourism activities. An exploratory approach was adopted using
qualitative and quantitative methods, with Social Network Analysis (SNA) and the Levels of Bonding Scale as the
main methodological procedures. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires administered to
community members and analyzed using the UCINET 6 and NetDraw software. The results reveal that both
communities demonstrate high levels of participation and share responsibility in tourism management, supported
by collaborative networks strengthened through local leadership and institutional partnerships. However,
challenges related to dependence on external stakeholders and the need to strengthen connections among
communities and other territorial actors were also identified. The study concludes that the combined application
of Social Network Analysis and the Levels of Bonding Scale represents an important tool for understanding
Community-Based Tourism governance, supporting strategies aimed at strengthening community autonomy and
the sustainable development of tourism destinations.
