Abstract

Tourism events play a strategic role in promoting cultural heritage, stimulating local economies, and reducing
destination seasonality. This study aimed to develop a diagnostic assessment of festivals, celebrations, and sporting
events in the municipalities that comprise the Metropolitan Identity Territory of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in order
to map these events and evaluate their potential to generate tourist flows. The research adopted a descriptive and
explanatory approach, based on bibliographic and documentary research, complemented by structured
questionnaires administered to the municipal governments within the territory. The collected data made it possible
to identify the typology, location, frequency, organization, and main characteristics of festivals, celebrations, and
sporting events. The results reveal a wide diversity of cultural and sporting events held throughout the year, with
emphasis on religious festivals, traditional celebrations, sporting competitions, and civic events, highlighting their
potential to strengthen cultural identity, stimulate the local economy, and increase regional tourist flows. The study
concludes that this diagnostic assessment is an important tool for tourism planning, supporting the development
of public policies, event promotion strategies, and initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism and sustainable
development within the Metropolitan Identity Territory of Salvador.
