INTERTEXTUALITY IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MEANINGS
A STUDY WITH MOVIE POST-CREDITS SCENES

This paper, framed within Text Linguistics, presents through the theoretical framework of Genette (1982) and Fiorin (1994;2011), the presence of intertextuality as a meaning builder and producer in end credit scenes from movies, highlighting the citation, the referentiation, and the stylization as resources of this dialogical relationship; furthermore, it discusses the importance of discursive memory (Courtine, 1981) towards the comprehension of the relationship among the scenes. The results show that the scenes can come in the form of a quotation, when it is cut from an excerpt from another film and published in that space; allusion, when the scene refers to something from the film that preceded it or from a later film; and stylization, when its structure is similar to another existing scene. In all three types, memory is a fundamental factor for understanding the scene, since in all the analyzed cases the receivers need to identify the existing relationship between verbal and/or non-verbal texts, referring to images or information from other films or of the same film.
