Advances in tourism information governance:

a comparative analysis of Curitiba’s smart tourism portal (POTI), 2025–2026

Abstract

Information management is a strategic element for tourism planning and development, especially in the context of Smart Tourism Destinations (STDs), which use technology and data to support decision-making processes. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the evolution of Curitiba's Smart Tourism Portal (POTI) between 2025 and 2026 as a tool for tourism information management. The research is characterized as exploratory, documentary, qualitative, and comparative, based on a literature review and a systematic analysis of the portal versions, considering information organization, indicator updates, navigation structure, data visualization resources, and accessibility. The results revealed significant improvements in the platform, including the reorganization of research categories, the expansion of filtering and visualization features, the diversification of available content, and enhancements to the interface, making access to information more dynamic and efficient. Despite these advances, the continuous updating of some indicators remains a challenge to ensure data reliability and maximize its contribution to tourism planning. The study concludes that POTI has strengthened its role as a tourism information management and tourism intelligence tool, contributing to Curitiba's development as a Smart Tourism Destination, although further improvements are still needed regarding systematic data updating and the assessment of users' perceptions of the platform.
