Desentrañando teorías no representacionales

Partiendo del reconocimiento de que las teorías no representacionales (TRN) están dotadas de una epistemología densa y que existe una barrera lingüística para su consideración en Brasil, este artículo se propone exponer sus supuestos de la forma más didáctica posible. Utiliza la estrategia de acercarse a los principales contribuyentes teóricos de TNR, sus conceptos clave y formas de aplicar sus supuestos en trabajos publicados en geografía anglófona. Cabe señalar que el vocabulario de TNR está compuesto por palabras que no son familiares para la mayoría de los geógrafos, lo que también puede constituir un obstáculo para la popularización del enfoque. Entre las palabras utilizadas se encuentran conceptos densos como assemblages, afecto, performance y affordances que son útiles para poder sintetizar procesos y fenómenos complejos. El artículo destaca las virtudes de TNR, que se centran en la capacidad de trascender dicotomías como mente y materia, individuo y colectividad, y hombre y naturaleza. A través de esta trascendencia, los TNR rechazan el enfoque de las categorías como ontologías y prefieren apostar por la inestabilidad permanente del imaginario y las relaciones que involucran las dimensiones humanas y no humana. El artículo advierte en su conclusión que embarcarse en el campo de investigación aquí discutido puede resultar frustrante para el investigador que quiere recurrir a formas tradicionales de investigación científica.
