ELUCIDANDO AS TEORIAS NÃO-REPRESENTACIONAIS

A partir do reconhecimento de que as teorias não-representacionais (TNR) são dotadas de uma epistemologia densa e que existe uma barreira linguística para a sua consideração no Brasil, este artigo propõe expor seus pressupostos. Usa-se a estratégia de abordar os principais contribuintes teóricos das TNR, seus conceitos-chave e formas de aplicação dos seus pressupostos em trabalhos publicados na geografia anglófona. Destaca-se que o vocabulário das TNR é composto por palavras que não são familiarizadas à maioria dos geógrafos, o que também pode se constituir como um obstáculo à popularização da abordagem. Dentre as palavras utilizadas estão conceitos densos como assemblages, afeto, performance e affordances que são úteis por serem capazes de sintetizar processos e fenômenos complexos. O artigo ressalta virtudes das TNR, que estão centradas na capacidade de transcender dicotomias tais como mente e matéria, indivíduo e coletividade e homem e natureza. Por meio desta transcendência, as TNR rejeitam a abordagem de categorias como ontologias e prefere apostar na instabilidade permanente do imaginário e das relações envolvendo as dimensões humana e não-humana. O artigo alerta em sua conclusão que enveredar pelo campo de pesquisa aqui abordado pode ser frustrante para o pesquisador que deseja recorrer às formas tradicionais de pesquisa científica.
