Abstract

Alluvial deposits are commonly used as an alternative to supply water in the Brazilian semiarid region. The present research aimed to characterize the alluvial environments of the Riacho do Tigre Basin – PB through sedimentological procedures of granulometry and pipetting, in addition to collecting data regarding channel morphology. The results indicate that the gradient value and the river's energy are lower in the sections closer to the mouth, with a larger coverage area for water capture. Anthropogenic intervention intensities occur in different ways, as does the density of vegetation cover. It was possible to define that section 1 is in a group with a higher percentage of gravel and intermediate values of clay and silt; sections 2 and 3 are in a group with a predominance of sand and a low percentage of silt, clay and gravel; and section 4 is in a group with a higher percentage of silt and clay compared to the others. The variation in hydrodynamics indicates that the sedimentation process occurred due to turbulent flows. The discussed information could assist in environmental management and understanding the region's conservation and evolution of alluvial deposits.
