Abstract

Plato recommended that for man to live well made necessary the harmony between body and soul. So, how to understand the metaphor of the body while prison of the soul by Athenian? According to Foucault, in contemporary times the body was devoid of a soul, in a game of powers who aspire for their discipline and their regulation. The body unfolds in two main modes: the manufacturing body, productive; the servile, submissive body. The body as a prison in Plato and the body as productive and slave manifests in contemporary society, would be representations of the same project, namely, the process that Foucault retrieves the Greeks and which implies in need of care themselves and the pursuit of freedom. This work seeks to present the power games and the dynamics of the body in Plato and Foucault, considering questions of the Philebus of Plato and of two works of Foucault, History of Sexuality and Discipline and Punish.
