THE WORKS OF ALBA DE CÉSPEDES TRANSLATED IN BRAZIL

Abstract

This article derived from a project that aimed to analyze the translations of the Italian writer Alba de Céspedes"™ novels under two major views: The investigation of the theories that were raised about her editorial motivation and the analysis of her work's plot and characters, based on Simone de Beauvoir"™s thoughts about women, which are expressed in The second sex. Our goal was to approach the matter of authorship and female representation and their relation with the age in which most of her works were published in Brazil: The sixties, a period where female and male roles were beginning to be reviewed. Thereby, we have selected two pieces of Alba"™s work translated in Brazil as our study objects, Ninguém volta atrás, published for the first time in 1947 and then in 1962, and O Remorso: uma nova mulher, published in 1968.
