A experiência humana em palavras: metonímias e metáforas ontológicas no gênero notícia para o ensino da leitura crítica

Abstract

This essay analyzes a news article published on an online journalistic website about the Eurovision Song Contest, with the aim of understanding how certain human experiences are linguistically constructed in multimodal journalistic discourse. The objective of the study is to investigate the occurrence and functioning of metonymies and ontological metaphors from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. The methodology adopted is qualitative and interpretive in nature, consisting of the analysis of verbal excerpts and multimodal resources from the selected news article, based on the theoretical assumptions of Lakoff and Johnson (2002) and Ferrari (2011). The results indicate that both metonymies and ontological metaphors operate as systematic cognitive mechanisms, structuring the understanding of events, institutions, and social agents, which demonstrates that these processes are not restricted to the stylistic level but organize the way reality is conceptualized and interpreted in the news genre. The findings also point to implications for the teaching of critical reading of journalistic texts.
